Life Changing Words Ministry

While Bill was having the Bible study with the young men, Sunil and I went to Agnes School for me to work on the library. Later I did some errands with Sarah and checked the emails before we got home.

Bill left to go to Gene’s until it was time to pick Peter up at the airport in the early morning of the 22nd. Sunil and I went to school. I had brought a word puzzle book with me and I enjoyed passing out the torn out pages for them to do after they had finished their work. They would bring them back to me for help or for showing me that they had found them all. [I wish I could stay longer with them, they are so precious and hungry to learn.]

Bill and Peter arrived late in the afternoon. He stayed at Angel’s mother-in-law’s house within walking distance of Sunil’s house. He only slept there, while we spent the rest of the time together. It was the room Angel’s husband, Stan, stays in when he has business in the Delhi area.

On Thanksgiving day, Angel, Bill, Peter, and I head for Chandigarh. Angel has a meeting she has to attend for Tanya’s school. At the halfway mark we stop at the McDonald’s resort. The restaurant is on the ground floor and they have lodging on the first floor that is not necessarily associated with McDonalds. There are other food stalls in the open area. Peter had me take a picture of him and Bill for his mom’s sake, since she would not believe that he would be seen in the place. Anyway, he wolfed down his sandwich. We topped the meal with soft ice cream for Bill’s sake. By evening, we safely reached the Finance Commissioner’s home. Stan arrived home in time to eat supper together.

Friday morning we headed out to do some shopping for Peter. We found some native handicrafts for souvenirs. We got him outfitted with a comfortable kurta, the Punjabi pajama kurta outfit with shawl (fancy church or party outfit) and another for more casual wear. To finalize his outfit we found him some juti (native style shoes) to cover his feet. He was all set.

Saturday the three of us went to the famous Rock Garden while Angel went to her appointment and Stan went to work. Bill and Peter’s highlight of the visit was a camel ride! Then we were taken to the Chandigarh lake, where we walked around and enjoyed some tea. The highlight of the lake visit was the classic (vintage) car show the city was having across the street. I got some snaps of the cars. Somehow I felt that some of the cars were out of place when I remembered the ones by ancestors drove; until I looked inside and noticed these had been converted to the land. Only one or two were actually imported. It was fun.

Well the truth of the visit to Chandigarh was that Peter was under secret scrutiny as a possible son-in-law. The question I was asked had to be personally asked to Peter. The only thing that seemed to get him off the hook immediately was his response: “The Lord has not spoken to me about this matter.” However, it did not end the issue. It seems that Peter has set a role model of the ideal and status that they are looking for in a future son-in-law. While this issue is a very serious issue for parents of eligible girls, we found humor in it. We will be praying that the Lord will answer their prayers quickly with the man of His choosing…who is also asking for the one of Sarah’s personality (and affordability).

At the church in Chandigarh we met Dale and Debbie Canyon. They are working with YWAM through Perth, Australia where they received their training. Ohio is their home state.

When lunch was finished, we headed back to Gurgaon via Vasant Kunj to drop Bill and Peter off to Gene’s house. They would be going to Agra early in the morning and it is easier to get a car from South Delhi area than it is in Gurgaon at this time. Angel and I returned to Sector 31. It is hard to convince Angel that Peter is no longer a candidate. She needs faith to trust the Lord for her daughter’s happiness.
